Smooth Green Snake
Average 75 - 90 cm, can grow to 120 cm.
Description Back glossy green, some individuals with black spots.
Ventrals greenish yellow. Body long and slender.
Scale smooth, but males have several rows of keeled mid-dorsal scales.
Resembles Bamboo Snake (Trimeresurus albolabris), but Bamboo Snake has a more triangular head.
Broad-leaf woodland and secondary forest in mountain area.
Also in shrubland and mountain grassland.
Absent from cultivated lowlands.
Often seen trapped in water catchment.
Behaviour Primarily Diurnal.
Slow in movement except when alarmed.
Gentle and inoffensive snake; seldom bite when handled.
Wriggle and defecated to defend.
Diet Earthworms, even the large earhtworms about 30 cm.
Reported to take caterpillars and insects.
Reproduction Lays 2 - 16 eggs per clutch.
Distribution Common in New Territories and on Lantau Island.
Uncommon on Hong Kong Island.
Ranges from central to southern China, Taiwan, Northern Vietnam, Laos.
